Selecting the Best Family Travel Insurance Plan

This 6 minute 44 second video is the second in our “how to videos” series. In it I discuss what travel insurance plans are best suited for families with dependent children under 16-17 years old. The main discussion points of the video are:

  • Children are free with paying adults – this varies depending on the company and plan – for example AIG Travel Guard’s Essential Expanded covers on a 1 adult to 1 child ratio while their ProtectAssist covers all children for free as long as you have at least 1 paying adult; Travelex will allow up to 3 children free with 1 paying adult;
  • Choosing which family plan insures better depends on where your are traveling to, how well your primary health insurance covers you while on your trip;
  • Travelex’s TraveLite and both of AIG Travel Guard’s plans offer Travel Medical upgrades that increase the medical coverage limit in case you need it(say if you don’t have any medical coverage where you are traveling to); and
  • AIG Travel Guard’s ProtectAssist plans has 2 extra options – Cancel for Work Reasons and Cancel for Any Reason – these options are a good fit for certain situations that the standard policy does not cover.

A couple of notes on the video – I know its a little blurry due to the small size of some of the text – hopefully future videos will be more legible, but as long as the point gets across. Also I mention that there are 4 plans that have good family travel insurance coverage, but there are really 5 – Access America Family Basics, AIG Travel Guard ProtectAssist and Essential Expanded, and Travelex’s TraveLite and Travel Plus.
