Advice from Tom Gallagher

Quick comment on the posting for today in the “Travel News”. It’s an article from Florida’s Chief Financial Officer concerning travel insurance. It is a very well written article and even though it is directed to Florida residents it can help you no matter where you might live.

As an informed consumer you should always check to make certain that the insurance company and agent are licensed in your state. If you’re buying coverage on the internet you should search the site for the identity of the insurance company and the licensing information of the agent. You can then check with your State Insurance Department to see if both are licensed in your State.

Many states have web sites where you can find this information. For a centrally listing of state insurance department web sites you can visit the National Association of Insurance Commissioners(NAIC) or ask the web site. Any legitimate site will provide you with information on how to contact your insurance department.
